Angels of Austria:

The Church That Reached Out To Holocaust Survivors

All her adult life in America, Trudy, a Jewish refugee from Austria, blamed herself for failing to rescue her father from the Nazis. Just as she began to share her father's letters that she had tucked away for over fifty years, she received an unusual invitation from a church in Austria asking her to return to her hometown for a week of friendship, seeking forgiveness for their country's crimes of the Holocaust. But how can Trudy forgive them, when she hasn't even forgiven herself? Is it possible to heal from the Holocaust? The daughter, Judy Faust, tells the story and explores the difficult and rewarding journey.
A lively discussion, more stories, and Q & A follows the screening with Ms. Faust. (show me preview)

An Immigrant's Dilemma (1938-45)

After Hitler erected barbed wire around the Danube, Trudy and her Papa stand in line for six months, hoping for exit visas. Only Trudy manages to escape to America via Holland and takes a ship to New York where she fights for survival, lives with hostile uncles, and tries to save money to rescue and ransom her Papa who is taken to a German work camp and writes letter after letter begging for help.
This presentation focuses on all the aspects of fleeing your own country, leaving behind loved ones, living with strange relatives in a new land, learning a new language, and the particular trials the Jewish refugees had during the Holocaust. Featuring a 20 minute video interview of Trudy Faust poignantly telling her experiences as an immigrant in 1938. The daughter, Judy, reads dramatic excerpts from the book she has written on her mother's life. A Q & A or discussion follows, giving the audience a chance to share their own family stories.

Creative Ways To Share Your Story

Judy Faust of What’s Your Story? inspires people by readings from her book on her own family history, and she reads a poetry portrait, shows art, musical slide shows, and excerpts from recent documentaries (featuring The Cat's Meow and Becoming Janet clips) to help them to decide what media suits their family history. She provides tips on organizing photographs, documents, letters, videos, and interviews making it an exciting activity that students do on their own, with friends, or with family members. They will see why this project is so life affirming. This show is educational and entertaining.
